Description

This is a two-part class; must register for both Parts 1 & 2.

Learn to knit top down socks with the classic heel and gusset flap. We’ll be covering the basics of sock knitting, including yarn and fiber selection, fit tips, needle types, history, and finally, you’ll knit your first toddler sized sock in DK weight.

Students should already be familiar with the following skills:

  • Casting on
  • Joining to work in the round
  • Working in small circumference
  • Working knits, purls, and basic decreases such as knit 2 together and slip, slip, knit.

Students will receive a complete pattern for top down, DK weight yarn socks with heel flap and gusset, in toddler, child, and two adult sizes.

Materials:

  • Needles--A - Main Fabric: US3 / 3.25 mm DPN’s, small circulars, or long circulars for magic loop; B - Ribbing: US 2.5 / 3 mm DPN’s, small circulars, or long circulars for magic loop. If knitting with small circulars, an additional set of DPN’s or long circulars will be required to complete heel and toe sections.
  • Notions--1 round stitch marker; one unique marker for the BOR; tapestry needle
  • Construction Notes: Choose a sturdy heavy DK/worsted weight yarn; a gauge swatch is not needed---we'll make a baby size as the gauge swatch for larger sizes.
